Treat of the Week: Photos for Classroom Use

Students in our classrooms should, whenever possible, be creating their own images rather than downloading photos they find online.  However, there are times when that isn't practical.  Students and teachers need to ensure that they are legally allowed to use the images they find online in their work. Luckily, there are many great sources of images that allow students to create great looking projects while still practising good digital citizenship.

Photos for Class  allows students to search for images that are "age appropriate", licensed by Creative Commons for public use, and provide citation automatically when the image is downloaded.

Students must include the attribution printed in the black section at the bottom of the image in order to meet the requirements for using these images.

Pixabay allows students to download images that are under a Creative Commons CC0 license, which means that they may be used for any public purpose.  Students do not have to provide any attribution or citation when using these images.  It is good practice to have them include a statement in their work explaining that all images are CC0.
